Plight of Doctors - Damned if they do, Damned if they don't!

Plight of Doctors - Damned if they do, Damned if they don't!

Take a look at this write-up that appeared a few days back in The Hindu, Chennai edition:

If a doctor asks you to go in for a plethora of tests, he's promptly accused of being money-minded, and further accused of asking you to undergo a battery of tests with aspersions being cast on possible "commissions" from all those tests, X-Rays, scans, etc.

If the same doctor takes a quick look at you and prescribes a couple of simple medicines after seeking answers to a couple of questions, you look askance and wonder if you've come to a "not-so-modern" doctor and whether you need to take a second opinion from a specialist.

I could actually go on and on about the sad state of affairs of doctors who are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, but the above article that has been written by one Dr. A Aswini Kumar expresses many of my own viewpoints with adequate clarity.

Another interesting article linked to the same subject:

Do read the article and think a dozen times before blaming the doctors in future!

Out or Not out? Even the 3rd umpire is confused!

Out or Not out? Even the 3rd umpire is confused!

This one was indeed hilarious:

A wag quickly asked me: Why is it that such things happen only in matches that India loses???

And a self-proclaimed Cricket Expert responded: "Oh! No. These things always happens in matches won by the home team, irrespective of where the matches are played!"

Mamata's views on alleged rape by cops

Mamata's views on alleged rape by cops

This one is a shocker:

Wonder if she actually believes her own statements?

Nitin Gadkare goes to vote on a scooter - Without a helmet!

Nitin Gadkare goes to vote on a scooter - Without a helmet!

Take a look:

Now that all the TV channels have flashed this news item, will the law-enforcement agencies take appropriate action against the violator? Or will he be let off due to his "stature"???

Also, I'd love to know whether he has a valid two-wheeler driving licence as on date? Would some investigative journalist go into the matter, perhaps with an RTI application to the RTO authorities?

What if others copy Kapil Sibal's defence of the UPA Govt on 2G

What if others copy Kapil Sibal's defence of the UPA Govt on 2G

Happened to see an article on Times of India (Kapil Sibal deflects 2G blame to NDA, Raja).

For those of you who don't have the time to read the whole article above, here are a couple of lines from the article, quoting Kapil Sibal:

Coming out with first government's reaction to the apex court's order cancelling 122 2G licences, Sibal said: "There is no indictment of the Prime Minister or the then finance minister (P Chidambaram) in the Supreme Court's judgment. If there is any indictment, it is the 2003 policy (first-come, first-serve) of the NDA government and we only followed it"

About losses to the government, the telecom minister said "there is no question of loss if the policy (FCFS) is right and if the policy is faulty then you will have to calculate losses from October 2003 onward when the policy was implemented."

And if there was loss, he said, the BJP, therefore, must apologize to the nation for causing huge loss to the government.

I'm sure Mr. Sibal is an honourable man. More importantly, he's an exceptionally smart legal expert. Perhaps, he advised his UPA Partner Trinamool based on which Ms. Mamata and her colleagues have been (directly or indirectly) blaming the CPM for the sad death of several babies in various Government hospitals in West Bengal.

I decided to let my imagination run riot - and started wondering what will be the quotable quotes from people from different walks of life if they were to learn a bit from Mr. Sibal.

Here are a few of those ideas (Please note - all the following bullets are entirely a figment of my own imagination, which may or may not have any resemblence to actual quotes by the concerned individuals on the issues under consideration - Any resemblence to real life situation is entirely accidental):

  • Dhoni on losses in Australia - "Well, actually the blame lies squarely with Lalit Modi - If he had started a private Test league instead of starting all these IPL matches, we would have been better prepared. Also, I must admit that Ganguly should share part of the blame. By not scoring enough runs even in domestic matches in India, he ended up strategically retreating from the Test team - Had he been there, we could have transparently blamed him."
  • Gilani on the Memogate - "Obviously, this is an Indian conspiracy. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a co-conspirator"
  • Narendra Modi on the post-Godhra riots - "It was all because of the anti-Sikh riots of 1984 - Otherwise, we, the peace-loving people from the birthplace of Gandhi would not have known how to indulge in riots"
  • Kiran Kumar Reddy on Power Cuts - "This is entirely due to Mr. K Chandrasekhara Rao of TRS - For further details, contact KC Rao"
  • Jayalalitha on the murder of a teacher by a student @ Chennai - "This is due to Sun Pictures - After all, they are the ones who come up with all kinds of violent pictures, corrupting young minds - Needless to add, part of the blame should be shared by Vijaykanth as his movies would stand testimony to all kinds of violent behaviour by the hero of each of his movies"
  • Omar Abdullah on the recent resignation of his Education Minister - "Had this happened in other states, the media won't raise a hue and cry. All one needs to do is to look at Pondicherry. People are biased against J & K."
  • Shah Rukh Khan on his "physically violent outburst" - "Hey, look at Harbhajan & Sreenath. If people don't bother about that, why are they after me?"

Well, folks! Before people start getting ideas and decide to look for me, let me start running - Away from the maddening crowds to escape from those who are chasing me!

Dangers of Milk & Dairy Products

Dangers of Milk & Dairy Products

The following article apparently refers to the situation presently prevailing in USA:

If half of it is true in India, we ought to be truly wary about drinking / eating any milk or milk-based products.

However, one advantage in India is that the usage quantum of processed milk-based products has not truly exploded - certainly not at my home, for instance.

The disadvantage in India, however, is the comparative lack of reliable regulatory mechanisms to ensure that appropriate standards are introduced and subsequently enforced.

I would love to hear from my doctor friends on this subject.
