THIS IS A TRUE STORY. READ TO BELIEVE.
On September 20, 2006, a young girl received a Chain Message on her facebook wall from a friend. The message said that if she did not pass it on to 25 other friends, she would have bad luck for the next 10 years. It also said that her boyfriend would dump her, she would fail all of her classes, she would get bad karma, she would never have a good love life, and, worst of all, she would definitely be murdered in her bed by the Chain Message Killer that very night. Unfortunately, this poor girl, for an unknown reason, thought that she was above the Chain Message God, and not only did she never send the message on to her friends, she DELETED THE MESSAGE OFF HER WALL. Gasp. That same night, she slept in her bed. Nothing happened to her. The End.

Cribbing about our Politicians, etc.
Often, I keep hearing a whole lot of so-called upwardly mobile, educated, professionally qualified youth of India cribbing about politicians, communal elements, pseudo secular parties, quasi-secessionists, regional chauvinists, communist dinosaurs, corruption, delayed judicial system, cops, intrusive media, etc. Virtually they seem to be cribbing about every aspect of democracy.
I must admit that there are times when I've been tempted to crib in a similar vein.
However, I must urge each of those "cribbing youth" to take a look at the video clip available in this link:
It shows scenes from the Tiananmen Square, China. And the spine-chilling scenes makes me delighted that we, in India, have a thriving democracy.

Came across this brilliant piece by Subroto Bagchi of Mindtree, entitled "The Fallen Tomato Cart":
A person known to me had responded as under:
"Since this guy Subroto Bagchi must have stopped his car and spoken to the tomato seller to get his story, I hope he gave the seller Rs.100 at an interest of 2.75 paise for the day. Rs.100 would not have constituted a big amount or risk for him sitting in his car and he need not have suffered so much angst over the incident."
My take on a practical note - Yes, we do overemphasise OUR risks, and downplay that of the rest of the world.
On a macro note - Go back to the Gita - Try to practice "Stitha Pragnya" (I hope that the English spelling does justice to the original Sanskrit word) - The nearest translation that comes to my mind is "Equanimity".

This one is not new, but has a good lesson!
MODERN VERSION
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.
NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house.
Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other grasshoppers demanding that grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter.
Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the grasshopper. The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance).
Opposition MP's stage a walkout
Left parties call for "Bharat Bandh" in
Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.
Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act [POTAGA]", with effect from the beginning of the winter.

The ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.
