Cricket Tri-Series?? Or is it Match-Fixing???
Was just going through the so-called ups and downs of the performance of the Indian Cricket team in this ongoing tri-series.
It is very difficult to believe that pretty much the same team performs like a champ one day and is down in the dumps the very next day, only to play like kings the third day, to be followed by a miserable flop on the fourth!
To top it off, take a look at the umpiring goof ups during different matches.
And look at some of the dropped catches.
And the fact that "special incidents" occur like the one where Sehwag was stranded on 99 in a game that was very well within the control of Indians right through.
Folks, give me a break!
Even a four-year old kid will find it difficult to swallow these as facts. But we all know that these things did happen in the past couple of weeks.
If these are indeed facts, it is way too much of a coincidence. On the other hand, if it is the handiwork of some crooked bookies who have fine-tuned the art of match-fixing, I'd find it easier to believe.

The Silent News - Tanker damaged by terror attack
Either I've been consciously ignoring all news or the newspapers and TV channels have underplayed this incident:
Apparently this is a story of a terror attack in the West Asian region.
My question is not about the terror attack. Apparently, terrorists do what they do. Nor am I asking about the response or its adequacy.
My query is simple:

Safety - in your hands
This just came into my inbox.
While I don't know about the veracity of this mail, I've indeed heard about laptop related accidents.
Two quick observations:
-
The manufacturers have no business to allow this - They ought to be aware that enough of the customers would indeed be using a laptop by keeping it on their beds. They ought to come up with a meaningful solution.
-
The customers ought to have some sense. If they plan to doze off, they ought to shut down the system and put it away. If for no other reason, for such mundane ones like taking care of the data, saving energy, etc.
Do read on:
PL OBSERVE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.
A couple lost their 25 year old son (Arun Gopal Ratnam) in a fire at home June 4th. the son, graduated with MBA from University of Wisconsin-Madison two weeks earlier and had come home. Had lunch with his dad at home and decided to go back to clean up his hostel room. Father told him to wait and see his mother before he goes back for a few days. He decided to take a nap while waiting for his mom to come home from work.
Neighbors called 911 when they saw black smoke coming out of the house. Their 25 year old son Arun died in the three year old house. It took several days of investigation to find out the cause of the fire. It was determined that the fire was caused by lap top resting in the bed.
When the lap top is on the bed cooling fan does not get air to cool the computer and that is what caused the fire. He did not even wake up to get out of the bed he died of breathing in carbon monoxide.
The reason I am writing this to all of you is that I have seen many of us using our lap top in bed. Let us all decide and make it a practice not to do that. Risk is real. Let us make it a rule not to use lap top on bed or put computer on bed with blankets and pillows around.
